Made By Humans #9 - Moveable

This is Martin. He is a pressman and one of the real life humans at Moveable who print all of the excellent posters, maps, magazines, booklets and clue cards that make our mysteries so intriguing and fun.

Over the last months, we have been celebrating our designers, artists and illustrators, our team members who make the pirate maps, answer the phones, respond to your emails and seal the envelopes with wax. They are all actual, real-life human beings. They are not robots, they are not generated by AI, and they cannot - and will not - be replaced by computers. This week, we would like you to meet the wonderful people at Moveable.

This is Annie and Mel. They are easygoing and super professional and no matter what we ask them to print for us they make it happen every time. Spy handbooks? No problem. Magazines? No problem. Perforated circles? No problem. Museum maps? No problem. How about band-aid boxes? No problem at all!

Moveable got into the printing business forty years ago as a boutique typesetter. When desktop publishing came along and turned the printing business upside down, Moveable had to move fast to reinvent themselves. They realized that computers could do the work of humans when it came to preparing print-ready documents, but the documents couldn’t proofread themselves. And so they became the humans who took the last close and careful look to make sure a document was perfect before it went to print. And the more people hired them to proofread and typeset their stuff, the more it made sense for them to print it too. And that’s how they got back into the printing business. Since then they’ve built a team of experts and added all kinds of specialty presses, which is great news for us because there’s nothing they can’t do. For us here at Mail Order Mystery, Moveable is magical.

Also, we love their logo. It’s a fox and a dog, right? But it’s not just any fox and dog. Remember that old typing exercise that uses every letter of the alphabet? That’s a QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPING OVER A LAZY DOG.
